Desalmado

This São Paulo grind band released their Hereditas EP a while back and although it flew under the radar, it was a vicious little piece of grindcore that made me take notice. Now they're back with their first full-length, and it's one energetic slab of raging crust and death-infused grind. Produced by Jean Dolabella, who played drums in a little band called Sepultura for six years (don't worry, I had to check which albums he was on, too), this release never lets up during its 31-minute run time. Spending a great deal of time in tempos that don't quite grind, instead hitting a death tempo, it's tempting to imagine hearing a bit of Sepultura in some of the big grooves (i.e., "Herege"), but this is still way more blasting than that band have ever been. Not in the top tier of grind, this one is still a ton of fun and played with intensity and sincerity. Plus, the album ends off with a Japanische Kampfhörspiele cover! It's hard to say no to that.
