Got Live If You Want It

BY Rob FerrazPublished Feb 1, 2003

There seems to be some buzz about this band among the hipper circles of music geek-dom and after listening to this, you'll get an idea why. From the stable of Brian Jonestown Massacre front-man Anton Newcombe, this trio have the psyche-rock thing down to a fine point. At times sounding like Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix, they play up a storm that'll have you seeing swirling colours and going, "Wow, heavy." But the vocals just rub me the wrong way; it's like Les Claypool with a stuffed-up nose and it's one of those things that you'll either love or hate. As far as live recordings go, this one is rather good. It was recorded at the famous Maxwell's in Hoboken in February of 2002 and features eight songs of trippy stoner goodness.
