Daughter are back! The English trio are previewing their forthcoming new album with wistful lead single "Be on Your Way."
Stereo Mind Game arrives April 7 via 4AD / Glassnote. It's the follow-up to the group's sophomore effort, 2016's Not to Disappear. Not counting their 2017 video game soundtrack, Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, Daughter's third LP will be the band's first new music in seven years.
"It has been in the making for a long time, pieced together delicately (obsessively maybe) over years, trying to make it as complete as it could ever feel," bandleader Elena Tonra shared in a statement posted to their website. "I think it's more optimistic than our past records (but it still has my lyrics.. so.. it's never going to be full sunshine) but I've tried to document experiences, thoughts, feelings, conversations and memories from my life, and hope that we've turned them into something listenable, something positive."
Produced by Tonra and bandmate Igor Haefeli, Stereo Mind Game was written and recorded across myriad locations including Devon, Bristol and London in the UK, as well as San Diego, Vancouver and Washington in North America.
Likewise, the Tiff Pritchett-created video for "Be on Your Way" evokes the fleeting nature of beautiful moments and the way we collect memories like trinkets of proof, with Tonra addressing a connection made in California while working on the record. "A friend said to me recently: just because something ends, doesn't mean that it wasn't real," she added, with Haefeli likening the revelation to the image of a pressed flower: "It's still there. It still exists. It grew that spring."
