Report: D'Arcy Wretzky Accuses Billy Corgan of Booting Her from Smashing Pumpkins Reunion

As rumours surrounding a Smashing Pumpkins reunion have swirled about these past few weeks, bassist D'Arcy Wretzky seemingly confirmed she would have no part in getting back together with her old bandmates. While a mysterious countdown ticks towards some big announcement for the group on Thursday (February 15), Wretzky has now supposedly revealed how her exclusion from the plans came to be.

Allegedly speaking with the site BlastEcho, Wretzky has apparently shared text message conversations with Corgan that first date back to mid-January. At this point, however, many have called into question the validity of the quotes, so you may want to take all this with a grain of salt.

According to the article, Corgan assured Wretzky that his recent teases of new work at that point weren't pointing to a reunion, writing, "well, so you know, [original guitarist] James [Iha] isn't here either. It's me and [drummer] Jimmy [Chamberlin] working and [guitarist] Jeff [Schroeder] now too."

Corgan reportedly told Wretzky that he and Chamberlin were set to record a single track with producer Rick Rubin, adding that "James is focused on his stuff, which is why he isn't here. And, as far as Rubin, he's gonna be involved a little but not the whole thing."

Of course, Corgan's Instagram posts would go on to say otherwise.

Wretzky also apparently claimed she was initially presented with a contract for studio sessions, only to have Corgan rescind it, telling her that it "wasn't a real offer." She supposedly first learned of Iha's involvement in the studio through Instagram, with Corgan reaching out again to clarify where they stood:

as far as you not being involved, there was never any decision to shut you out, or make you not welcome. It's more about getting on the same page with [the] tour first and then the necessity of the song came up… so focus on [the] tour and I think we can find the right way to have you involved. I know speaking with Jimmy, he wants you involved so that the tour is the best thing we can all give the fans and build for the future.

Wretzky allegedly told BlastEcho that after the offer was rescinded, Corgan told her that Chamberlin and Iha were "with him" on the decision to reunite without her.

"I am totally disgusted with James," she is alleged to have told the website via text. "He should be ashamed of himself."

Through Wretzky's supposed Facebook page — which some fans have also questioned the validity of — she shared the new BlastEcho article and posted an additional message sent by Corgan, which you can find below.

Wretzky — or perhaps the devious person running the page — also responded to plenty of fans in the comments section, writing, "I think people might be getting sick and tired of being manipulated by Billy."
