Long-running British hard rock group the Cult have returned to sell you sanctuary in the form of a new album. Their tenth overall, Hidden City reveals itself to Canadian masses February 5 via Dine Alone, while UK and U.S. editions will be handled by Cooking Vinyl.
The upcoming album concludes a trilogy of releases that started with 2007's Born Into This and 2012's Choice of Weapon. The current lineup features founders Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, as well as drummer John Tempesta (White Zombie), bassist Grant Fitzpatrick and keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Damon Fox.
The album finds the act once again hitting the studio with longtime producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Mötley Crüe), and it's being described as a "brutal and beautiful masterpiece." Thematically, the record deals in "redemption and rebirth," as explored by Astbury's "blood-soaked lyrics."
"Hidden City is a metaphor for our spiritual lives our intimate interior lives," Astbury said in a statement. "I find today's gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it's a new phenomenon. My place is to respond, not react, to observe, participate and share through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart."
Down below, you can stream the rip-snorting first preview of the collection, "Dark Energy." There, you'll also find the tracklisting info for Hidden City.
