Cryptopsy

Opera House, Toronto ON March 9

Let's face it, Cryptopsy haven't done much in the last few years. On top of that, current vocalist Matt McGachy is no Lord Worm and their most recent release, 2008's The Unspoken King, was a total disappointment. Maybe these facts attributed to the poor turnout at this year's Montreal Metal Showcase. However, be that what it may, Cryptopsy remain one of the most legendary bands to emerge out of the Quebecois technical death metal scene that they helped create. Despite the dismal attendance, Cryptopsy still put on a solid performance. Even though McGachy could never live up to Lord Worm's larger-than-life stage presence, his vocals were powerful and impressive. Musically, the group were tight and on point throughout their set, headbanging in unison to the tracks' more straight-forward, groove-laden moments.
