Following Korn's collaboration with dubstep producers, the Doors have become the latest rock group to team up with electro star Skrillex (pictured above). This oddball pairing is part of a documentary called RE:GENERATION, which pairs superstar DJs with artists of different genres.
The documentary, which will be brought to us by the Grammy Awards and, uh, Hyundai, features five unexpected collaborations in which a DJ works with a non-electro artist. They include: the Crystal Method with classic Motown singer Martha Reeves; DJ Premier working with Nas and the Berklee School of Music Orchestra on a classical piece; Pretty Lights teaming with country singers Ralph Stanley and LeAnn Rimes; and Mark Ronson creating a jazz track with Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty and members of the Dap Kings.
As for the Doors' song with Skrillex, keyboardist Ray Manzarek told Rolling Stone, "I like to say this is the first new Doors track of the 21st century." He further explained, "Basically, it's a variation on 'Milestones', by Miles Davis, and if I do say so myself, sounds fucking great, hot as hell." Hopefully this turns out better than that time they played with Scott Stapp.
Expect the film to premiere in early 2012, in time for the 54th Grammy Awards on February 12. The artists involved with participate in events during Grammy Week. Until then, check out a trailer below and learn more at the film's Facebook page.
