Coliseum

Parasites

BY Tyler MunroPublished Nov 15, 2011

While Parasites mostly continues down the path that alienated so much of Coliseum's fan base on House With A Curse, this eight-song collection is littered with reminders of what once was. "The Big Baby" is filled with explosive roars from vocalist Ryan Patterson and both "Blood of the Beast" and "One Last Night" strike surprisingly close to the band's once breakneck pace. That being said, Parasites is far from a rebirth, as it definitively solidifies a caustic interpretation of post-hardcore as Coliseum's sound for the future. And what a sound it is, managing to slide the band pretty comfortably into the upper echelons of the genre, filling the void left when bands like Bear vs. Shark stepped aside. For the best barometer of their potential, look no further than "Gone with the Pope."
