Women in Music Canada (WIMC) has revealed the long list of nominees for its inaugural honours recognizing the tireless efforts of women working in the Canadian music industry.

Charlotte Cardin, Coeur de pirate, Fefe DobsonTanika Charles, Sad China, JESSIA, Domanique Grant, Nico Paulo, STORRY, Karen Kosowski and Irish Mythen are among the women nominated.

They were chosen from an overwhelming number of submissions by a jury of 22 Canadian music industry leaders and creators as finalists across the WIMC Honours' eight awards categories: Artist of the Year, Distinguished Leader, Entrepreneur of the Year, Excellence in Live Music, International Leader of the Year, Organization of the Year, Trailblazer Award and Women in Music Canada Honour Roll.

"I have been told often over that last few months that this recognition program has been needed for a long time," WIMC Executive Director Robyn Stewart said in a statement. "On behalf of the WIM Canada board, we couldn't be more excited to recognize the long list today, and to bring the Canadian music community together to celebrate March 8th, on International Women's Day. Thank you to all jury, all applicants, sponsors and funders for helping us bring this dream to reality. And above all, congratulations today to all of our long list."

The honours reception dinner and awards will take place on March 8 — International Women's Day — at the Opera House in Toronto. Hosted by CBC's Saroja Coelho, the event will feature performances from Dobson, Sofia Camara, Desiree Dawson, Tia Wood, Liliane Chlela and Sacha. Loreena McKennitt will also be presented with a special induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
