Mo' Money, Mo' Stache

BY James KeastPublished Oct 26, 2008

Trust a couple of drunk Aussies to combine a moustache revival with a desire to raise awareness of men’s health issues, but since its 2004 inception, the month of "Movember” has become an international affair. In Canada, money raised goes to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation; participants register their clean-shaven faces on November 1, then celebrate their hirsute accomplishments at gala events worldwide mere weeks later (in Toronto on Nov. 27 at the Phoenix). Manly men and their hairless fans are encouraged to register (movember.com), form group grow support networks and make friendly wagers on fundraising. Last year, Canuck ’stache enthusiasts raised nearly half a mil in cash; the mo’vement has raised more than $29 million worldwide. Whether it’s the Lanny McDonald broom, the John Waters pencil or the Colonel Mustard (pictured), every tickler helps.
