Back in June, we reported that Seattle-based folk trio the Cave Singers had left longtime home Matador Records to become part of the equally awesome Jagjaguwar roster. But since the band was in the middle of recording their third full-length at the time, there weren't too many details to dish last summer. It was revealed that the album was being tracked with producer Randall Dunn (Black Mountain, Sunn O))), Boris) but there were no specifics on what would be on the album, or even what it would be called. Now with winter upon us, the Cave Singers are finally ready to unveil the deets of their latest rustic recording.
No Witch, which will be released February 22, is a 12-song affair that promises to expand on the Cave Singers' patented, back-porch Americana sound. Maybe there will be a washboard percussion solo on there; maybe a jug toot or two, too. Either way, Peter Quirk is guaranteed to make us feel at home with his gospel croon.
A clip filmed for Seattle radio station KEXP last August, which can be seen below, had the troupe premiere a new song that focused on a tranquil acoustic guitar and melodica melody, but the song has yet to be identified. Hopefully it made the cut for No Witch because it's quite a stunner.
