Cass McCombs Announces Double Album 'Big Wheel and Others'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 22, 2013

Cass McCombs released two albums in 2011, but having not put out a full-length in 2012, he's making up for lost time by announcing a 22-song double-LP. Big Wheel and Others is due out on October 15 through Domino.

A press release calls this "McCombs's most ambitious and stylistically diverse release to date," with stylistic touchstones apparently including "road songs, rock songs, folk songs, blues songs, country songs, rhythm and blues songs, skronk non-songs, cinema songs, cult songs, poem songs, jams, and ballads."

Singer/actress Karen Black, who died earlier this month, appears on a tune called 'Brighter!"

The hefty tracklist is split across two CDs. A limited edition double-vinyl version will also be available in a run of 500, and these come with an alternate album cover and an exclusive 7-inch containing unreleased songs.

See the tracklist below, and scroll past that (plus the tour schedule) to hear the laid-back cut "There Can Be Only One." If you're suitable impressed, the album is available to pre-order here.
