Bush Tetras have returned with their first new album in 11 years. The NYC post-punk outfit will share They Live in My Head on July 28 via Wharf Cat Records.

Produced by Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley — who also drums on the album — They Live in My Head follows Bush Tetras' 2012 sophomore LP Happy. The band, formed in 1979, had their work revisited in recent years with the 2021 arrival of box set Rhythm and Paranoia: The Best of Bush Tetras.

In tandem with the box set, the lineup of vocalist Cynthia Sley, guitarist Pat Place and drummer Dee Pop began work on a new album. Right before its release, Pop passed away, leaving his bandmates determined to complete the LP in his honour.

In a release, Place shares of working with Shelley, "We just went into the rehearsal space and things just would fall right into place. We'd just start playing and the next thing would happen and we'd know where to take it."

Sley added of the album: "We thought a lot about memories from 1979 in New York City. It's a reflection of growing up together, what we were eating, what we were doing, weird little things people probably won't get. But that's cool."

"Things I Put Together" is the first song to arrive from They Live in My Head, and you can hear it below. Bush Tetras have lined up a pair of US shows to mark the album's release, with a release hinting at "further dates to come in the US and Europe."

Bush Tetras' presently scheduled live dates will see Rocky O'Riordan (The Pogues, the Radiators, Elvis Costello & the Attractions) join the group to play bass alongside Sley, Place and Shelley.
