Brooklyn Doran

"Paper Wings"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 31, 2016

Ontario singer-songwriter Brooklyn Doran is readying her debut full-length titled These Paper Wings, and Exclaim! is giving you the first listen to the brand new single from which it takes its name — "Paper Wings."

"The song began as a poem that I wrote several years ago, that I revisited when writing for the album," Doran tells Exclaim! "The track tells the story of Icarus, but is told from the perspective of the sun."

The introspective indie-folk ballad is driven by tenderly plucked guitar and Doran's soothing vocals, with gentle percussion propelling the tune towards a fuller sound. It was recorded at Catherine North Studios in Hamilton with Dan Hosh and Scott Peacock before Elliott Brood's Stephen Pitkin took over mastering duties.
