Brazilian Girls

"Me Gustas Cuando Callas

BY Cam LindsayPublished Nov 1, 2004

There’s only one girl in the band and none of them are from Brazil (try Italy, Argentina and U.S.). The name might not make sense, but Verve made a smart choice signing this multi-faceted, multi-lingual quartet. They incorporate possibly every musical genre into their lively sound: reggae, dub, electronica, rock, bossa nova, and of course, jazz. Singer Sabina Sciubba sings in German, French, Italian, Spanish and English, so there is plenty of work when it comes to learning all of the lyrics. "Me Gustas Cuando Callas" is Sciubba practicing her Spanish along to a snail-paced slice of down-tempo that favours a heavy dub rhythm with a wonderfully haunting, delayed organ.
