Blue Rodeo Announce '1000 Arms' Album, Plot Cross-Canada Tour

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Oct 13, 2016

Today is most definitely a good day for Blue Rodeo fans, as the beloved Canadian folk-rock group have announced not only a new album but a sprawling Canadian tour. And that new record is coming out fast.

Called 1000 Arms, the new album is due out on October 28 via Warner Music Canada, marking the band's 14th studio album and first proper studio outing since 2013's In Our Nature.

The 12-track record was co-produced and engineered by Tim Vesely, a founding member of the Rheostatics. The album apparently takes its name from a podcast Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy has recently been listening to.

"The podcast was about allowing your community to help you," said Cuddy in a statement. "When we were going over titles, we were thinking about our musical community, what it means to us and how much we would do for each other. That was what we were thinking about the most, so it seemed like an appropriate title."

Also, Cuddy and bandmate Greg Keelor are now once again singing more together on the album. "We made a very concerted effort to sing together on this album, either with direct harmonies or call and response, and we really enjoyed that," said Cuddy.

The band have also shared the LP's first single, "Superstar," which comes via a video directed by longtime Blue Rodeo collaborator Chris Mills. You can find the clip near the bottom of the page, and in it, you'll see the group transformed as what described as a "Riot Grrl band," believe it or not.

To tease you even more, Blue Rodeo have also shared a 1000 Arms "medley," which you can listen to at the bottom of the page.

As for that Canadian tour, it will begin on January 11 in Thunder Bay, ON. From there, it will play much of Canada, hitting up cities such as Toronto, Halifax, Calgary, Vancouver and many more. You can see the complete routing below, where you'll also find the new album's tracklist.
