Blair Lee and Sylo Nozra Take a Wistful Road Trip to "California"

It's "about falling in love with someone who has dreams as big as yours," says Lee

The impending summer weather means road trips, and Blair Lee has delivered a new anthem perfect for long stretches of time driving down highways. She's enlisted fellow Toronto-based singer Sylo Nozra and producer ModMaxx for new single "California."

Packed with wistful dream pop guitars, the "California" that Lee sings about is a far cry from the relentlessly upbeat pop-punk and surf rock that the West Coast state is known for. The new tune imagines sunny skies but with the threat of storm clouds lurking just beyond the horizon, as Lee's airy voice harmonizes with Nozra's croon, asking, "Would you drive to California / to California without me?"

"'California' is about falling in love with someone who has dreams as big as yours. It's about the excitement of embarking on a new journey with this person, but fearing you'll lose them somewhere along the way," said Lee in a statement. "The first version of 'California' was made a long time ago, alone in my apartment. Maxx was in New Zealand at the time, so I sent him the demo along with the stems. Since then, the song has been reworked a bunch of times, but it feels like it landed in the right place. Having Sylo on the track is really what tied everything together."

"California" follows Lee and Nozra's recent singles "Lucifer" and "Spirits," respectively.
