Biden's Team Reportedly Desperate for Taylor Swift's Endorsement

It's been such a big part of their campaign plans that social media job applicants have been discouraged from mentioning Swift in their pitches

Taylor Swift left 2023 behind as the most famous woman in the world, and she has started 2024 on a similar note. While she has yet to play any more Eras Tour shows this year, her presence at beefcake boyfriend Travis Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs games has seemingly been enough to keep her name on everybody's lips in perpetuity.

In addition to the adorable photos of the couple's congratulatory lovefest on the field yesterday (January 28) as the Chiefs won the AFC Championship against the Baltimore Ravens and secured their ticket to the Super Bowl, Swift was viral earlier last week for much darker reasons when explicit, AI-generated photos of her were created and spread across the interwebs — allegedly by a Toronto resident. The social media platform formerly known as Twitter has consequently blocked searches of the pop star's name for the time being.

The necessary regulation of AI-generated imagery, especially in the pornographic vein wherein women and girls will inevitably be targeted without remorse, is a whole other can of worms. But the potential action that may incur on that front because of the viral images of Swift ultimately proves just how much of a powerful public figure she is. It's for this reason that US President Joe Biden's team is reportedly "desperate" for the singer-songwriter to endorse his re-election campaign.

A New York Times deep-dive into Biden's 2024 campaign revealed that his aides are discussing ways to secure Swift's backing ahead of the presidential election in November. In fact, it's been such a frequent topic of conversation that applicants for social media roles have been discouraged from even mentioning her name in their pitches for the campaign, because so many ideas about getting the artist involved have already been proposed.

According to the publication, one of the suggestions that has "jokingly" (?) been floated amongst Biden's team is for the president to literally pull up to an Eras Tour stop to shake hands and kiss babies, exchange some friendship bracelets with some Swifties, etc., even though the pop star doesn't even have any more US shows until this fall, which would be later than ideal. Perhaps a good last-ditch effort to keep in their back pocket?

Notably, the report makes it seem as if getting Swift's endorsement is a big challenge the campaigners are facing. Which, fair — she's the most famous woman in the world and quite busy — but it wouldn't exactly be unprecedented for her to back Biden, as she did back in 2020.

This news follows an earlier fringe right-wing conspiracy that Swift is a government spy — and now that Kelce's team is headed to the Super Bowl, they're convinced she's rigging that too. Meanwhile, Grimes has suggested that Swift should run as a GOP candidate herself and "unite the country." That's really not her job, but okay.
