Beck Reveals Plans for Acoustic Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 1, 2013

Last year, Beck promised that he would finally release a new studio album in 2013, and it looks like he's going to keep his word. As he prepares to hit the road in the coming months, he has revealed that he has an acoustic collection in the works.

A press release describes the album like this: "The record can best be described as a self-contained work, one that came in the form of a burst of inspiration following the completion of last year's groundbreaking Song Reader sheet music album."

That's all the information we have to go on at the moment, and details are non-existent. It's not clear if this is the same project that he's been working on for the last few years, or if it's an entirely new set of songs.

In the next couple of months, Beck will preview material from the album at a series of live shows. Some of these gigs are acoustic sets with minimal accompaniment, while others are full-band electric performances. He's also got a a show in San Francisco in May featuring live music and stories; this show is inspired by the aforementioned Song Reader project.

When the new album arrives, it will be Beck's first proper studio album since 2008's Modern Guilt.
