Bear Mountain

"Faded" on Exclaim! TV

BY Hannah ZieglerPublished Jun 28, 2016

It's hard to listen to a Bear Mountain song and resist the urge to dance. The Vancouver indie-electro outfit captured the attention of Last Gang Records, then debuted their LP XO through the Toronto label back in 2013. Since then, the West Coast musicians have released a slew of stunning music videos, and have taken their synth-y wonders on the road opening for the likes of Bloc Party, Cut Copy, Hot Chip and MS MR. In September, they'll release a new album titled Badu, so in anticipation, we met up with the band for a different kind of performance of XO cut "Faded" for this episode of Exclaim! TV.

Replacing their signature synths and electronic drums with acoustic guitars, keyboard and some simple shakers, the band take the formerly electro-pop track in a much more traditional direction, bordering on folk. The sparse yet satisfying instrumentation complements the lyrics; the previously chilly line "It's like you never come home" finds newfound warmth thanks to band member Ian Bevis' stripped-down, husky vocals.

Bear Mountain's sophomore album Badu comes out September 9 and you can listen to their new single "Give It Up," here.
