ANOHNI and the Johnsons have announced a new single called "It Must Change," arriving May 16 — it will be the group's first new piece of original music in more than a decade.

Bandleader ANOHNI made the announcement in an Instagram post yesterday, posting a photo of a pair of billboards that featured the single's name with the caption "ANOHNI and the Johnsons. IT MUST CHANGE. new single May 16."

The last release by the group was 2014's Turning, a collection of live recordings that accompanied ANOHNI's film of the same name. Before that, they released the 2012 live album Cut the World. Their last studio full-length was 2010's Swanlights.

ANOHNI released her debut solo album Hopelessness in 2016 and followed it with the Paradise EP the next year. In 2020, she shared the protest song "R.N.C. 2020," covered Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," and joined forces with Bryce Dessner and the Australian String Quartet for a new string arrangement of "Another World," which she originally released in 2008 alongside the Johnsons.
