Early this year, we noted that Andy Shauf was "slowly but surely becoming recognized as one of Canada's best young folk singer-songwriters." Now, a couple of prominent indie labels have taken note, as the folksy Regina fellow has signed with Anti- in the U.S. and Arts & Crafts in Canada.
This is a big move for Shauf, whose 2012 album The Bearer of Bad News was released through the comparatively low-profile labels Tender Loving Empire and Party Damage Records.
In regards to Arts & Crafts, Shauf said in a statement, "It's great to be in the company of artists that I really respect. It seems like a label that allows its artists the freedom to do what they want, and accepts people who are doing interesting things…I'm excited!"
While Shauf's first album for his new labels isn't expected out until next year, the tunesmith has shared a new song called "Jenny Come Home." Shauf recorded it at Studio One in Regina, and Rob Schnapf (Beck, Kurt Vile) mixed it. Scroll past the songwriter's tour schedule to hear the jaunty tune at the bottom of the page.
