Last year, we'd learned that Saskatchewan singer-songwriter Andy Shauf had signed up with both Arts & Crafts and Anti- to deliver his next full-length. Now, it's been confirmed that he'll celebrate the release of the album, titled The Party, on May 20.
The follow-up to 2012's The Bearer of Bad News is described in a press release as a "tightly narrated" collection full of "awkward characters," though it's added that The Party is not a concept record. The album has been in the works since 2014, with Shauf having written songs with a band out in Germany before scrapping the songs and returning home to Regina to start anew.
The 10-song release was recorded at Regina's Studio One, with multi-instrumentalist Shauf handling almost everything on his own. Colin Nealis added strings to the set.
A stream of opening track "The Magician" has materialized ahead of the album release, and you'll find it below, beneath the record's tracklisting. As previously reported, Arts & Crafts will handle the album release in Canada, while Anti- release the record in the U.S.
