While American Football are hiking us their first new album in 17 years this fall, the quartet are letting us in on the huddle in the meantime by streaming out another early tune. Full of shuffled drum patterns, mellow vibraphone and post-emo guitar play, the track is titled "Give Me the Gun."
The song is the second to be previewed off of the band's second self-titled LP, following "I've Been Lost for So Long." The new tune starts off subtly with a few six-string harmonics and a jazzy quiver of hi-hat and kick drum. The cotton-soft arrangement soon brings in counter-rhythm guitar lines and Mike Kinsella's fine-aged vocals, which ask for the titular firearm in a calming, non-judgmental way.
The new track can be found below, courtesy of NPR, while American Football is due October 21 through Polyvinyl.
