After cancelling her North American tour due to illness earlier this year, Allie X has returned from her social media status to share an update on her health.

The Toronto-born avant-pop star shared a photo of herself enjoying a walk through nature alongside a four-legged friend on Instagram yesterday (June 1). "Update: I survived," she wrote in the caption. "It's been an extremely painful/enlightening time."

She added:

There is so much I am grateful for. Thank you for all the kind messages of support and understanding I've received. Getting so ill just before a tour sort of forced me to "come out" and be vulnerable about something I like to keep hidden or at least shrouded in art. Your response of respect and compassion has given me space to heal on a deeper level [than] I have ever allowed myself, thank you. I don't have news on touring or new music at the moment, as I'm still not quite back at full capacity. But I look forward to all the adventures to come.

The cancelled tour was to be in support of Allie X's sophomore album, 2020's Polaris Prize long-listed Cape God — which was inspired by the same autoimmune illness that flared up back in March. "Sometimes, despite all my best efforts, my body stops working," the singer-songwriter had written on social media. "And all I can do is lie still, breathe through the pain and wait the weeks or months it takes to pass until I can work my limp up to a run again."
