After fans of A Tribe Called Quest petitioned earlier this year to have a street named after the late group member Phife Dawg, New York City is now set to immortalize the MC with a street renaming.
The city will co-name the intersection of Linden Boulevard and 192nd Street as Malik "Phife Dawg" Taylor Way, with the mayor's office signing the bill to make it official today (August 3).
It was in that area where Phife Dawg and childhood friend Q-Tip formed A Tribe Called Quest, with the street being referenced in the opening verse of "Check the Rhime": "Back in the days on the Boulevard of Linden / We used to kick routines and the presences was fittin'."
Phife Dawg passed away in March following complications from diabetes. He was 45 years old.
