The story behind Wu-Tang Clan's Once Upon a Time in Shaolin is more than a little crazy — so crazy, in fact, that it's being turned into an entire Netlfix film.
The upcoming project — simply called Once Upon a Time in Shaolin — is being helmed by Brittany Runs a Marathon director Paul Downs Colaizzo, and according to Collider, the film aims to tell the true story behind pharmavillain Martin Shkreli's acquisition of the one and only copy of Wu-Tang Clan's Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. And no, it's not a documentary.
The script was written by Ian Edelman (How to Make It in America), and RZA is expected to produce the project alongside Brad Pitt's production company Plan B. According to the report, the script will follow the auction for Wu-Tang Clan's seventh studio album and its notorious aftermath.
Apparently, the project was actually first revealed last week in an STX press release about Edelman writing the Pete Davidson/O'Shea Jackson Jr. movie American Sole.
Of course, this wouldn't mark the first time the Wu-Tang were the subjects of a scripted project, as Wu-Tang: An American Saga aired on Hulu last summer.
As of press time, there is no sign of any sort of premiere date for Once Upon a Time in Shaolin or word on any casting choices, so stay tuned.
