It's simple logic — you can't have Maverick without the Iceman. After Tom Cruise recently confirmed the drone-heavy Top Gun sequel, Val Kilmer has now confirmed that he'll be appearing in the film as well. Trouble is, he made the announcement in an incredibly confusing way.

Last night, Kilmer announced the role on his Facebook page. He described it as one of those rare projects you say "yes" to without reading the script. Other examples he used were films that star Gene Hackman and films that are directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

The post has since been slightly edited for clarity, but it still sorta looks like Top Gun 2 will be directed by Francis Ford Coppola and co-star Gene Hackman. A handful of websites reported the misinformation while fans got incredibly excited for the star-studded film. So much so that Kilmer was forced to clarify his statement:

Francis Coppola and Gene Jackman are examples of what an actor says "yes" to. They are not involved. So sorry for the misunderstanding.
