'Under the Shadow' Is Getting an Unnecessary English Remake

Following a breakout showing at Sundance, Under the Shadow is widely considered to be one of the year's best and most unique horror films. Set in Tehran and spoken in Farsi, it pairs sociopolitical commentary with genuinely scary jump scares. It's the sort of film you should definitely go out of your way to see. Or, you could just wait for the shitty white remake.

The Hollywood Reporter explains that XYZ Films and Wigwam Films are set to produce an English language version of the film. Rather than Tehran in the '80s, the new version of Under the Shadow will be set in London during World War II.

Director Babak Anvari won't be forced to remake the English version of his excellent feature, but he will serve as executive producer. A director is expected to be announced shortly.

Fortunately, for movie fans who don't turn into whiny crybabies at the sight of a few subtitles, the original version of the film will still be readily available on Netflix later this year.
