Poor unemployed Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be forced to sign up for a temp agency or something. After quitting The New Celebrity Apprentice, the former governor has just lost another big gig with news that the Terminator franchise is officially kaput.
UPDATE (03/22, 11:30 a.m.): Turns out this report was incorrect. David Ellison has said we can expect another Terminator movie.
According to the New York Daily News, Paramount has opted to shut down future instalments of the long-running franchise. In other words, the Terminator has finally been, uh, hmm. What's the word for when you bring something to an end?
"It is over for The Terminator and Arnold," a source told the Daily News. "The studio has taken the sequel off the production slate completely, meaning there is no preproduction or any plans for another sequel. The talent had been offered long-term deals, but this is not happening."
In 2015, the franchise attempted a comeback with Terminator: Genisys but the film did not bode well with critics or North American audiences despite a hefty return internationally.
"The Genisys movie was seen as a way of reviving [the franchise], but the critics were not happy and somehow the studio bosses fell out of love with making more, even though they made huge profits," the source continued.
We don't need any more Terminator movies anyway. After all, scientists have already figured out how to make a T-1000 in real life.
