While speaking at the 2018 Conservative Political Action Conference, Cruz dropped this little turd of a comment:
Ted Cruz: "The Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson. And Republicans are happily the party of Homer and Bart and Maggie and Marge." https://t.co/7ygJierIC1— Sahil Kapur (@sahilkapur) February 22, 2018
Putting aside the GOP's shakey history with The Simpsons, this objectively incorrect take has managed to piss off the entire internet.
There was a loud chorus on Twitter pointing out the show's constant mocking of Republicans, the fact that Maggie Simpson nearly killed the Republican Mr. Burns with a gun and even the fact that Lisa Simpson once became president in order to save American from President Trump (a gag that seemed far-fetched at the time).
Then, Simpsons showrunner Al Jean decided to weigh in:
.@TheSimpsons The way things are going even Mr. Burns is thinking of becoming a Democrat.— Al Jean (@AlJean) February 22, 2018
.@TheSimpsons Ted Cruz says Maggie Simpson would vote for him.— Al Jean (@AlJean) February 22, 2018
I think Ted's the one who could use a pacifier in his mouth.
Another prominent theory reemerging from this absolutely dogshit take is that Ted Cruz has never actually seen The Simpsons. After all, when he was campaigning to run for president he released this bafflingly awful video:
