Sure, it's not always fair to judge a book by its cover, but when it comes to movies there's a lot to be gleaned from their promotional posters. Mr. Right boasts Sam Rockwell wearing a clown nose, and Anna Kendrick in a 2003 quirky girl get-up complete with cat ears and an astronaut riding a unicorn. It looks like a fake poster for a throwaway movie gag in a Judd Apatow film.
Unfortunately, Mr. Right is not a dumb throwaway gag but in fact a dumb real movie. The film premiered at TIFF last year, and its terrible festival reviews weren't enough to prevent it from getting a wide release.
The premise is simple but entirely stupid: Sam Rockwell plays a hitman who, in an eye-rolling twist, kills people who try to hire him as a hitman, and Anna Kendrick is his love interest. She's willing to ignore his murderous tendencies because she just wants a man, y'know?
If you feel like ruining your day a little, you can watch the trailer for Mr. Right below. The film opens on April 8.
