John Cusack Says He Was Hit by Pepper Spray in Chicago Protest

Actor John Cusack has alleged through a series of tweets that police pepper-sprayed him and hit his bike with batons while he was filming protests in Chicago last night (May 30).

During a demonstration against police brutality following the death of George Floyd, the 53-year-old actor and self-described "apocalyptic shit disturber" took to the streets to document the protests in his home state of Illinois. Cusack has since uploaded numerous videos of the protests to Twitter, including several videos and accounts of alleged attacks against him by riot police.

"Ugly scene everywhere now cops restraint seems over — nasty violence energy everywhere," he wrote in a tweet, adding that, "Cops didn't like me filming the burning car so they came at me with batons. Hitting my bike."

Cusack also claims that he didn't personally witness the police's use of tear gas, but said he was hit by pepper spray during the insurgence.
