Jim Henson Is Getting a Biopic Called 'Muppet Man' from Disney

Disney has had a rocky track record when it comes to the Muppets, but hopefully that will change with plans to make a biopic about the lovable puppets' legendary late creator Jim Henson.

The company is currently developing a project called Muppet Man with writer Michael Mitnick (The Current WarThe Giver). The film will be produced by Jim's daughter Lisa Henson for the Jim Henson Company.

Details are scarce, but a Jim Henson biopic has been at various stages of development for years. The current Mitnick script will be a rewrite of a previous script from Aaron and Jordan Kandell. In 2009, a biopic script from Christopher Weekes topped the Black List — an infamous list of the best unmade screenplays.

Jim Henson passed away in 1990 at the age of 53. Aside from the Muppets, he created Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock and directed films like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.

The Muppets most recently returned for the Disney+ series Muppets Now last year. The streamer also houses every season of the cult series The Muppet Show.

Thanks to Deadline for the tip.
