Jim Carrey Shares Advice About Depression with Ariana Grande

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 22, 2019

Ariana Grande has made her appreciation for Jim Carrey known in the past, and now the comedian/actor/painter has reached out to the singer and offered support after she opened up about depression on social media.

In a since-deleted series of tweets, Grande claimed that although making music was "healing" to her, performing it has been "like reliving it all over again and it is hell."

She replied to another fan who asked if touring was a healthy decision for her, to which she replied, "I don't think it is. Honestly."

Grande continued to say that she has a lot on her mind and "no energy to process or work thru any of it," and called the process of touring "hard emotionally."

Grande later took to her Instagram story and shared a quote from Carrey, who she referred to as the "love of my life" (also revealing that her fourth grade AIM screen name was jimcarreyfan42).

The quote reads in part, "You should think of the word 'depressed' as 'deep rest.' Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character that you've been trying to play."

Now, Carrey has offered an expanded version of the motivational quote as given to him by Jeff Foster — which Grande has already joked about getting tattooed on her forehead.
