Beloved internet cat Lil BUB has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 8.
News of her passing comes today from BUB's various social media profiles care of her "dude" Mike Bridavsky.
"I have always been fully transparent about BUB's health," Bridavsky writes in an Instagram post. "And it was no secret that she was battling a persistent and aggressive bone infection. Even knowing this, we weren't expecting her to pass so soon or so abruptly without warning. I truly believe that she willingly made the decision to leave her failing body so that our family would not have to make that difficult decision ourselves."
BUB was a polydactyl and toothless special-needs feline born in 2011. She was characterized by her extremely photogenic qualities and had hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide. She was the face of a number of charitable causes, helping to raise over $700,000 USD for homeless animals in her short lifetime.
Back in 2015, she also released her debut album Science and Magic: A Soundtrack to the Universe, and often collaborated with a number of A-lister musicians including Andrew W.K., Run the Jewels and Ryan Adams.
