John Turturro's answer to Joel and Ethan Coen's 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski is finally starting to come together — 22 years after the original film's initial release.
Today, the first official teaser for The Jesus Rolls has arrived, along with a premiere date. The film — written, directed and starring Turturro — follows the classic Coen brothers' character Jesus Quintana after he gets out of prison.
The movie's official synopsis reads:
The Jesus rolls on. Hours after being released from prison, Jesus Quintana (John Turturro) pairs up with fellow misfits Petey (Bobby Cannavale) and Marie (Audrey Tautou), and embark on a freewheeling joyride of petty crime and romance.
Additionally, the film will star Jon Hamm, Christopher Walken, Susan Sarandon and Pete Davidson.
Last summer, in conversation with The Independent, Turturro described The Jesus Rolls as "a bit of a racy movie. It shows how stupid men are. That's what the movie is kinda about — the women are the stronger, more together characters. I had to tweak it a little bit but now I feel really good about it. It's basically an exploration of Jesus getting out of jail. It's a comedy but a very human comedy."
Turturro first announced plans to reprise his role as Jesus back in 2016 when the film was still called Going Places.
The Coen brothers have not officially endorsed the film.
The Jesus Rolls hits theatres March 6.
