Star Trek is getting fitted with a new series — and one that will bring back a pile of fan favourites.

CBS All Access has ordered up Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will feature Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. Yes, that's right — Spock.

The upcoming series will take place in the in the decade leading up to Captain Kirk boarding the U.S.S. Enterprise, with Strange New Worlds giving us a trio of characters that were recently featured Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery. With the trio's appearance going down exceptionally well with fans, they have now got their own proper spinoff with Strange New Worlds.

"Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck's portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season," said Julie McNamara, executive vice-president and head of programming at CBS All Access, in a statement. "This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek."

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be written by Akiva Goldsman with the story by Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet.

"This is a dream come true, literally," said Goldsman. "I have imagined myself on the bridge of the Enterprise since the early 1970s. I'm honoured to be a part of this continuing journey along with Alex, Henry and the fine folks at CBS."
