Fans Launch Petition to Make LeVar Burton the New 'Jeopardy!' Host

Who will be the second greatest game show host?

In the days following the tragic death of long-time Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, the show has announced that he filmed enough episodes to last us until Christmas. Though that may seem like a ways off, it still means the game show will have to find a new host next year, leaving fans pondering who will be his permanent replacement.

On the outskirts of the reigning Ken Jennings stan-base, one fan named Joshua Sanders has set up a Change.org petition to have Star Trek/Reading Rainbow icon LeVar Burton take his turn behind the quizmaster's podium.

Since launching earlier this week, the "Make LeVar Burton the next host of Jeopardy!" petition has garnered over 21,000 signatures of its 25,000-signature goal.

The petition reads:

Between hosting 21 seasons of the educational Reading Rainbow, playing the brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and filling the roll of Kunta Kinte in the ever-important mini-series Roots, LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds. This petition is to show Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and producers Mike Richards and Harry Friedman just how much love the public has for Burton, and how much we'd all love to see him as the next host of Jeopardy!

Earlier today, Burton shared a link to the petition through his social media channels, so it appears he would probably take the job if offered. In the meantime, Jennings is set to host the show at least partially, as the crew announced his new on-air role back in September.

Sony has yet to confirm a permanent replacement for Trebek following his final Christmas Day episode.
