Ennio Morricone's Soundtrack to John Carpenter's 'The Thing' Set for Vinyl Reissue

Recent years have been beyond kind to Ennio Morricone fans, with countless reissues coming out seemingly non-stop. However, one of his most beloved works has got ever elusive on vinyl over the years — something that's about to change now that Morricone's classic score to John Carpenter's The Thing is at last getting reissued on wax.

The news comes via horror soundtrack hub Waxwork Records, who began teasing the upcoming vinyl release via its socials today (December 12).

Quoting the beloved 1982 film, the label wrote: "Somebody in this camp ain't what he appears to be. Right now, that may be one or two of us. By spring, it could be all of us."

Waxwork then simply wrote, "Coming soon," before adding a video player featuring the soundtrack's iconic main theme.

At this point, that's all we have to go on. But knowing Waxwork, the reissue will come with new artwork — for better or worse — so the cover above from the original release most likely will be revamped quite drastically.

It's also unclear if the reissue will house the original vinyl release's tracklist, which was made up exclusively of tracks composed by Morricone, or that of later releases, which included more synth-led tracks penned by John Carpenter himself and scoring partner Alan Howarth. CD reissues over the years have also tacked on several bonus tracks and alternate takes, which hopefully will finally make their way to vinyl for Waxwork's reissue.

For now, stay tuned for further updates on the release as they become available.

UPDATE (01/06, 2:45 p.m. EST): Waxwork Records has now confirmed that The Thing reissue will arrive next month via Twitter, where they also shared a sneak peek of the new vinyl edition's artwork.

UPDATE (01/17, 4 p.m. EST): By the looks of a new post from Waxwork, the new vinyl reissue will keep the same tracklist from the original Morricone vinyl release — for better or worse.
