Like it or not, last weekend's premiere of Game of Thrones gave fans an Ed Sheeran cameo. But with the UK pop star's sudden abandonment of Twitter quickly after the show aired Sunday (July 16), many were quick to lay blame on the fast and furious backlash over the now-infamous GoT spot. Now, though, Sheeran himself has come forward to straight up deny that theory.
Sheeran popped up on his still-active Instagram account today and said the fact he left Twitter had nothing to do with Game of Thrones.
"I came off Twitter Coz I was always intending to come off Twitter," he wrote. "Had nothing to do with what people said about my game of thrones cameo, because I am in game of thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that. It's clearly fuckin' awesome. Timing was just a coincidence, but believe what you want."

Despite all the controversy over the Game of Thrones cameo, Sheeran is still slated to appear on an upcoming episode of The Simpsons. We hope that cameo is as "clearly fuckin' awesome."
