Canadian film director Jean-Marc Vallée, whose credits include Dallas Buyers Club (2013) and Big Little Lies (2017), has died at the age of 58.
A cause of death has not been made public. Vallée died suddenly in his cabin near Quebec City, QC, over the weekend.
Throughout his career, Vallée directed projects like The Young Victoria (2009), Sharp Objects (2018), Wild (2014), Café de Flore (2011), Black List (1995) and C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005). He directed nine features and two seasons of television, plus a handful of films.
Vallée was born in Montreal. He won an Emmy for the first season of Big Little Lies, which he directed and executive produced. His films received numerous Genie Award nods, and he won the Genie Awards for Best Motion Picture and Best Achievement in Direction for 2005's C.R.A.Z.Y.
His films Dallas Buyers Club, Wild and The Young Victoria were each nominated for various Oscars and Golden Globes; Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar for Best Actor and Jared Leto won for Best Supporting Actor for their roles in Dallas Buyers Club.
Vallée is survived by his children Alex and Émile, both of whom are actors and appeared in their father's projects.
