Netflix Taps Chris Rock for Streamer's First-Ever Live Show

His newest comedy special will premiere live in early 2023

Seemingly trying to make its tiered subscriptions and no-share accounts worth it, Netflix will begin streaming live content next year — with a Chris Rock comedy special set to be the guinea pig.

The streamer announced the decision on its socials today, saying that the comedian's newest special will premiere live on Netflix in "early 2023." The upcoming special will be his first since 2018's Tambourine, as well as his first since the Oscars incident that shall not be named.

Last month, an inside source told Page Six that Rock alluded to making light of "The Slap" in a new special, so it looks like the time has finally come. "People expect me to talk about the bullshit, I'm not going to talk about it right now," he said, adding that he'll "get to it eventually, on Netflix."

Will this be the early-2023 event to watch out for in lieu of the Oscars hosting duties that Rock reportedly turned down? Only time will tell.
