After revealing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis last week, longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek has taken to social media to thank fans for the massive outpouring of support.
In a new video message, the Ontario-born 78-year-old said he had received thousands of texts, tweets, emails and letters of support after revealing he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Among those well-wishers were many former Jeopardy! contestants.
"I am thankful for the kind words, the prayers and the advice you have offered," Trebek said in his new video message. "And I am extremely touched by the warmth you have expressed in your comments to me. I'm a lucky guy."

In last week's video message Trebek revealed, "Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this, and I'm going to keep working. And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease."
But Trebek joked, "under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years! So help me. Keep the faith and we'll win. We'll get it done. Thank you."
Trebek has hosted Jeopardy! since 1984, and last fall his contract was extended through 2022.
Early last year, Trebek took a break from filming the show to recover from surgery.
