Wu-Tang Clan's album A Better Tomorrow didn't exactly blow away the critics, but the legendary rap collective are still generating excitement with their one-of-a-kind album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. They've been fielding offers for some time, and now they've officially announced plans to sell it through the online auction house Paddle8.
"We will announce Paddle8 as [the] official auction house," RZA told Forbes. It's unclear if this is the same auctioneer that he spoke about a couple months ago when he proposed premiering the album at Art Basel.
More information about the record will be revealed this month via a micro-site, which will contain interviews, essays, and a sneak peak at the album's tracklist.
The sale will be treated as a private transaction rather than a traditional auction. Paddle8's Sarah Goulet explained that this means "price upon request," with the company filtering real offers from fake ones and the group deciding which buyer would be the best fit.
"This is being positioned both by the Wu-Tang Clan and by Paddle8 as a work of art," Goulet said. "It's truly treating this album, which very well may be the last album that the Wu-Tang Clan makes together, as a one-of-a kind, special property that is worth the price."
It still remains to be seen whether the world at large will ever get to hear this album, but if you happen to have a few million dollars kicking around that you want to invest in art, here's your chance.
