Adult Swim's calendar for its 2015 Singles program called for a Flying Lotus track to be released today (September 28). Instead, we've gotten something a little different: a new FlyLo project called WOKE that also features Shabazz Palaces and Thundercat.
In addition to these core collaborators, WOKE's debut track "The Lavishments of Light Looking" features P-Funk luminary George Clinton. The song is just the kind of futuristic funk odyssey you'd expect from these musicians, as a woozy bath of synths is fleshed out with bouncy bass, cryptic rapping and clap-along beats.
It remains to be seen whether this is a one-off, or if WOKE will release more collaborative music. For now, hear "The Lavishments of Light Looking" below.
