Although Whitehorse's Available Light Film Festival is primarily geared towards movie buffs, music fans will also want to play close attention to the event when it runs from February 6 to 15, since it will include a series of notable performances.
On the festival's opening night (February 6), Toronto alt-country outfit the Wooden Sky will perform a kickoff concert at the Yukon Arts Centre along with local act Old Cabin.
The subsequent days will include several performances that bridge the divide between film and music. Tanya Tagaq (alongside violinist Jesse Zubot and drummer Jean Martin) will provide live accompaniment to the 1922 ethnographic film Nanook of the North, We Are the City will perform the day after a screening of their film Violent, John Southworth and the South Seas will perform songs from the album Niagara alongside accompanying video, and Kevin House will perform his contributions to the soundtrack of Down River following a screening of the flick.
Additionally, Julie Doiron and Jon McKiel will perform what appears to be a more standard music gig as part of the fest.
