Tyler, the Creator Launches Golf Media App and Magazine

Though they were first thought of as Tumblr-savvy skate brats, the members of the Odd Future hip-hop collective are quickly becoming media moguls. Aside from their Loiter Squad show on Adult Swim, group affiliate Frank Ocean recently announced he'd launch a magazine alongside his next album. Today (April 8), ringleader Tyler, the Creator has gone a step further by launching a multimedia app and publication.

The new venture is called Golf Media, and is described on its website as "Tyler and his brain without restrictions and bullshit." While it's not entirely clear what that will entail, the media will be delivered via a new app for Apple and Android devices.

In an interview with The FADER, Tyler's manager Christian Clancy summed up the project, saying, "It's a bunch of different things that are original, curated and constantly changing. Original series, content, live streaming, radio, tour stuff, golf wang, interactive and whatever other buzzwords that sound mildly annoying and marketing-like."

He added that the app is a way to let Tyler do whatever he wants without the standard industry stopgaps. "At the end of the day, [Golf Media is] an opportunity to jump in a space everyone's scrambling to figure out, and we found a partner that isn't bogged down by politics and stuff that gets in the way of actually trying it the way Tyler wants," he said.

The Golf Media app is available now from the Apple and Android app stores. It will cost users $4.99 a month, though you'll get two months free if you subscribe here. The first content for the app will be posted tonight at 9 p.m. PST.

Further, Golf Media is also planning to launch a print publication called Golf Magazine later this year.
