Speedy Ortiz are spending the next couple of months on the road, and as they travel throughout the U.S. and Europe, they will be going above and beyond to ensure that their fans feel safe at shows. They will be doing this by launching a help hotline.
In a letter posted on Facebook, the Massachusetts indie rockers asserted their commitment to ensuring that their shows are welcoming and inclusive. To this end, they have launched a help line at (574) 404-SAFE for anyone who feels unsafe, oppressed or marginalized at gigs. It seems that this line is open to texts rather than phone calls.
The band can also be reached at speedyortizhotline@gmail.com. People who contact them should be sure to mention their first name and where in the venue they can be found.

This help hotline is a new system we're trying out, but one we hope will make our shows a lot safer & more fun for all. We love you folks.

sometimes as a showgoer i've felt unsafe & didn't know what to do. as a performer i've always have an easier time getting security's ear
— sadie dupuis (@sad13) September 7, 2015
i'm hoping we can leverage our privilege as performers to help keep our friends in the crowd safer. we'll see how it goes but i'm optimistic

and if this hotline help system does seem to work, we hope other bands will set them up too. hint hint ;)
