Soulfly Plot 'Archangel' LP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 27, 2015

Max Cavalera is currently on tour with Cavalera Conspiracy, but the Brazilian-born metal vet has confirmed he's about to hit back with a new album from his other long-running group, Soulfly. Though a street date has yet to be set in stone, a full-length called Archangel will apparently bless us all by August.

Speaking with Metal Wani [via Blabbermouth], Cavalera confirmed that the album should arrive this summer through Nuclear Blast. While the collection, which follows 2013's Savages, is pretty well done, Cavalera still has to do some vocals for the set.

"It's an interesting record. It's very epic, mystic kind of Soulfly record that we don't really do every day," Cavalera confided. "It's one of those [records] that come out once in a lifetime, an album like that comes out — really crazy sounds and very different dimensions. It's more experimental than the other stuff."

The still-in-the-works Archangel is being recorded with producer Matt Hyde, and once again features Cavalera's son Zyon behind the drum kit. The father has said the set is "heavy as hell" and fast, and compares his son's playing to former Slayer drum monster Dave Lombardo.

Though a tracklisting has yet to be unveiled, the album will feature a "metal anthem" called "We Sold Our Souls to Metal." Cavalera described the chorus of the cut as featuring a New York Hardcore-style gang chant, which he anticipates will connect with crowds.

"I think every metalhead feels like that — that we did kind of a pact and we sold our souls for this music that we love so much. So it's something that I think [they'll] sing that with some kind of pride."

Cavalera Conspiracy, meanwhile, are currently out on the road supporting last year's Pandemonium. You'll find info on their U.S. trip with Death Angel, as well as the skinny on some European appearances, over here.
